First we got to ride the ferry boat over to Nanaimo. It was a really big boat that you can drive your car straight onto and then it sails out into the ocean. Here's Nana & I on the ferry:
They don't allow pets to leave the car deck so Nana & Grandpa took turns staying in the car with me while the other went up to the people deck. But shortly after we left the dock, we got to see a bunch of Orcas (killer whales) that were breaching (jumping up out of the water and splashing back in) near our ship.
Once we got over to Nanaimo, it was a short drive to Tom's house which is on the top of a ridge near Nanoose Bay. He has a spectacular view across Georgia Straight.
Tom's dining room and great room - you can see the view from virtually every room in the house. And why not?!
The view across Georgia Straight from Tom's deck - beautiful views. (Generally you are looking across the southern tip of Texada Island up into the area around Jervis Inlet. The spiky peak is not Black Tusk we finally decided which would be much further to our right.) I got to lay out on the deck much of the time, enjoying the view and keeping watch for deer (abundant) and bunnies (even more abundant) and squirrels (didn't see any).
Tom also has a hot tub which Nana & Grandpa enjoyed.
Me not so much, so I stayed out!
Tom also has a really nice rug with a west coast native pattern of the Orca whale on it. For some reason, even though it looked quite soft and inviting, Nana and Grandpa didn't want me sleeping on it although I did
get my picture taken on it before we left. I think I would be camouflaged on it if I did take a nap there and nobody would notice.
We made a side trip up to Comox for Nana & Grandpa to see some old friends and for Grandpa to play some golf with them.
Friday morning though, it was time to head home again which meant another trip on the big ferry boat.
Here we are waiting in large lineup to get on the ferry in the morning.
Again they wouldn't let me go off the car deck to where the nice smells were coming from but it was a nice day so we enjoyed the view for a while. I didn't see any whales this time though.
Just some boats.
I was happy to get home and back into my own sleeping chair.
That's cool that you got to see whales jumping out of the water. I would like to see that. Maybe we could go on a ferry boat some time when we visit you?
